When motivation isn’t enough
If you are like me, you are very excited and motivated when you first start a goal or project. But what happens when your motivation wanes? Do you struggle through, or do you move on to the next goal or project because you have lost interest in the current one? It would be better to build habits around your Crossroads Journey than to rely solely on motivation.
Some things to think about when setting up habits around your Crossroads Journey:
- Do you have dedicated time each week, each day, each month to work on your current goal?
- Do you have about five hours each week dedicated to your goals?
- Or how much time each week do you want dedicated to taking action on your goal or project?
- What habits can you form to achieve what you have set out to achieve?
- Have you added this time and habit to your diary or planner so it can be tracked?
- It may help if you set a time each day or, at the very least, each week marked specifically for your goal.
- Is there a repetitive activity? If so, have you scheduled it into your planner or diary?
- What else can you do to form habits?
Happiness list
As you will know by now, if you have been following along with each week’s action plan, that happiness list is a list of activities that make you happy. You do at least one happiness activity daily. But also as a reward for achieving something from your Crossroads Journey. And also when you are struggling because it is an off day or you have done one of the roadblock and sabotage activities.
If you have been following along since week one, then you will have a good selection of activities to do that make you happy. Is there anything else you would like to add to the list? What has been your favourite activity to do?
One thing I have been doing that makes me happy is focusing on my self-care. I used to be a nail picker, and years before that I was a nail biter. I am coming up to about week 8 of growing my natural nails. I am surprised that they are stronger than they used to be. I have also been applying body lotion each night before I get into my pyjamas.
I have also purchased an empty makeup palette off Amazon, and I have added the makeup that I made: mineral foundation; it was loose, but I pressed it into one of the empty pans. I have also added two of the three lipsticks I made. And I have made a list of the makeup that I want to make next. I have also priced how much it will cost to buy the ingredients, but I will have to get the ingredients I don’t have a little at a time. The first project I want to do next is make myself a mascara, as I am fully out. For now, my goal is to create all the products for this makeup pallet… but I am thinking of getting a couple more pallets so that I can have a pallet for different occasions. In the meantime, I can use the commercial products that I still have.
